MATIC to POL: How the Token Migration Affects Transaction Tracking

Polygon's native token was renamed from MATIC to POL. Learn what this means for your transactions, wallet balances, and how to track POL transactions.

In late 2024, Polygon officially migrated its native gas and staking token from MATIC to POL as part of the Polygon 2.0 upgrade. This is a key context for anyone using a Polygon transaction tracker.

What Changed?

The MATIC token has been replaced by POL on a 1:1 basis. If you held MATIC, you now hold POL at the same quantity. All transactions on the Polygon PoS chain are now denominated in POL, not MATIC.

What Stayed the Same?

Your wallet address did not change. The blockchain history is fully preserved. All past transactions that show MATIC still represent the same value — the asset was simply renamed. When you look up old transactions on polygontransactiontracker.com you may see both MATIC and POL depending on the timestamp.

Tracking POL Transactions

Everything that applied to MATIC transaction tracking applies to POL. The TX hash format, gas fee mechanism, and address structure are all identical. Simply use polygontransactiontracker.com as you always would.
